Calcium hydroxide is used to prepare the solution known as “calce water” that allows to keep calcium in the aquarium at natural concentrations.
The lime water guarantees a correct level of calcium (directly) and the right carbonate hardness (directly). These two functions are also linked to the evaporation rate and carbon dioxide (CO2) present.
If these two factors are insufficient you can guarantee additional calcium with Reef Advantage Calcium and carbonate hardness with Reef Buildertm (do not dissolve these products directly in lime water).
Those who already use lime water for their marine aquariums, judge this optimal system for stabilizing calcium value. Carbonate hardness must be measured and correct to ensure that calcium carbonate is not precipitated. Magnesium concentration must also be measured and maintained to prevent a precipitation of magnesium hydroxide that would change the balance of the buffer substances due to a drastic lowering of the pH. It will have a growth of limestone on the substrate and an intercrusted surface that will require frequent cleaning according to the requirements of operation of the aquarium. The success you will get will pay you some time used to pay attention to these factors.
There is no reason to think that you cannot obtain the same results using lime water also in reef aquariums.
Format: 250 gr.
Instructions for Use
Do not enter the product directly into the aquarium, but dissolve 3 g (1 teaspoon approximately) in 4 lt of fresh water. If you use pure water, you can also prepare a saturated solution by melting 6 g (2 teaspoons) in 4 lt of fresh water. Pour in the aquarium a bit at a time. Keep the pH and carbonate hardness under control. Adjust the input so as to obtain a stable pH at 8.3 – 8.4.
TIP: 4 lt of a saturated solution of lime water in 150 l of marine water raise the calcium level of 24 mg/lt. Always use the clear liquid (top), avoiding entering into the aquarium the undissolved sediment (bottom part). When it is not used to keep the container well closed and minimize contact with the air to prevent the calcium carbonate from falling.
WARNING! Guaranteed analysis: Football (Ca): 54.09 % (satural solution: 0.09 % Ca). Avoid contact with skin and especially with eyes. Do not inhale dust and do not ingest. If this happens rinse for 5 – 10 minutes.
In case of persistent burning in the eyes consult a doctor.
