This plant is native to South America and the stems become 25-60 cm long with 10 cm long leaves. Sott'acqua l'Hygrophila costata has relatively narrow leaves and grouped together. The plants sold in the shops are normally cultivated outside the water and have more round leaves with larger spaces.
Until recently the Hygrophila coastline was called Hygrophila corymbosa 'Angustifolia'.
