Replenish, salts in solution for osmosis
Replenish is a compound of mineral salts designed to reintegrate the necessary quantities of minerals removed due to the use of reverse osmosis systems or by the deionizers filters.
Replenish restores the total hardness (GH) using a balanced mixture of soft salts (sodium and potassium) and hard salts (calcium and magnesium).
Minerals restoration is fundamental as a complete absence causes osmotic stress to the species that need a mineralized environment and an osmoregulation system. Osmotic stress can translate into a shock that will lead to a rapid death of the fish.
Osmotic stress and shock
The osmoregulation allows fish to maintain their balance of salts and water in the body, if this is disturbed by adverse conditions or a sudden change in the chemical composition of water, animals will not be able to adapt.
Osmotic stress occurs when fish are kept in water with inadequate mineral levels (too high or too low). This is more common in animals whose natural habitat is rich in minerals but live in aquariums with low levels of this element. In this way osmotic gradients (difference between the internal fish fluids and those of the environment in which it lives) increase and fish have difficulties of osmoregulation.
The osmotic shock can derive from an osmoregulation precipitation due to inappropriate chemical compositions of water but it can also be caused by an increase in the permeability of scales due to diseases or trauma suffered.
Both stress and chronic osmotic shock can cause a rapid death of their fish.
