Substrate
The Spathiphyllum, known as Fior di Pace, is a native plant of the rainforests of South America, appreciated for its beauty and ease of care. Its shiny leaves can be dark or varied green, while white flowers, actually modified leaves last long. This plant requires a few attentions, making it suitable for less experienced. It is sufficient to water it when the ground is dry and place it in an area with bright and indirect light.
For optimal growth, it is important to avoid water stagnation, guarantee a good drainage and fertilize it regularly from spring to autumn. During the winter, watering must be reduced. Spathiphyllum prefers hot and humid environments, with ideal temperatures between 20 and 24 ° C. It also adapts to the shade, but could produce less flowers. In case of direct or excessive shadow exposure, the leaves can yellow or distort.
To propagate the Spathiphyllum, you can proceed by root division. Every 2-4 years it is recommended to reserve it in a larger container to prevent that it becomes linked to the roots. If it does not flow, it may need more light or changes in watering and fertilization.
Attention to parasites like aphids, coccinighies and red spawns. Finally, this plant is toxic if ingested by pets or children, so it is good to keep it out of their reach.
The spathiphyllum, or peace of peace can be raised in water, but with some notings. This technique, called hydroculture, consists in increasing the plant in water instead of soil. However, it is important to consider that the plant must first develop a radical apparatus suitable for water.
To transfer spathiphyllum to water, follow these steps:
1. Remove the plant from the vessel gently, eliminating the whole earth from the roots.
2. Carefully rinse the roots with water to eliminate all soil trace.
3. Put the plant in a container with water, ensuring that only the roots are immersed, not the leaves or the stem.
4. Change the water regularly, about every 1-2 weeks, to avoid stagnation and accumulation of harmful substances. You can use filtered water or left to rest for 24 hours.
However, the spathiphyllum cultivated in water could grow more slowly than the one on the ground, and you will need to make sure that you receive specific nutrients by adding liquid fertilizers for hydroculture plants.
The Spathiphyllum Wallisii XL jar has a diameter of 9 cm.
