The Ceratophyllum demersum was found in a smaller tributary in Bolivia during an expedition to Rio Guapore, a border river between Brazil and Bolivia. Ceratophyllum has no roots as such, but it is still possible to plant it at the bottom of an aquarium and the stems can become up to 80 cm and 5 cm wide. The Ceratophyllum demersum differs from the nearest leaves and the lateral shoots, which give it an attractive and compact look.
The plant also stands out because it is more resistant and its stems do not break easily like those of other varieties of Ceratophyllum
