The filter materials have different tasks: filter the flowers floating from the water (mechanical filtration), offering decomposing bacteria a place to settle (biological filtration) or remove the harmful substances from water (chemical / absorbent filter materials). Over time, of course, mechanical filter materials are transformed into biological materials.

It always filters from the big one in order. The fine material placed at the beginning of the filter would take too quickly. For the first filtration level, a large filter sponge or filter ceramic (JBL Cermec). For a biological filtration JBL Sintomec and JBL Micromec offer the largest surface to decomposing bacteria. Activated carbon (JBL Carbomec Activ / Carbomec Ultra). To filter the nitrates you have available JBL Nitratex e JBL Bionitrat ex. Against phosphate, which favors algae growth, serves JBL Phosex ultra and against silicon acid (diatome) JBL Silicat ex.

Nitrates (NO3) and phosphates (PO4) are from nutrient base for unwanted algae. First, measure the content of the phosphate with the JBL Proquatest PO4 and, in the case of increased values (starting from about 0.3 mg / l in the freshwater aquarium), use special filtering material JBL Phosex ultra.

Phosphates come from the death of algae and other plants, from the supercharging of fish or unsuitable food. Already starting this information you can reduce the amounts of phosphate in water.
