HISTORY

The origin and history of Tamasaba leads to Ryukin. More than 100 years ago, there was already the so-called Sabao that has its breeding origins in Ryukin. The Sabao had a rather long and narrow shape.

Ca. 25-35 years ago, the Sabao breeders decided to carry out only the fish with the most fat belly. The result of this breeding is found today in the Tamasaba where the word "Tama" means pebble, in a nutshell "Sabao pebble".

Tamasaba was originally bred in the North of Niigata and nowhere else in the world, but now also in Italy we have excellent breeders. It has very special features and is subjected to a very strict selection. Its bright red and its particular shape makes it immediately an eye point in the aquarium. It is also suitable for sealing in the lakes.

These Japanese red fish have a great resemblance to the Ryukin, but the difference makes the long and fluent single fin, also called "single tail". The Tamasabas also reach a size up to 30 cm and unlike the Ryukin they also endure low winter temperatures such as the Koi.
