A successful coral reef aquarium depends on how much you manage to maintain optimal water parameters that are the key to a stable coral environment. All elements in natural marine water play a role in providing optimal water parameters, but some are more important than others.

These elements, the basic substance of natural cliffs, include the three main elements: calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and carbonates (CO3). All three have an important effect on water chemistry (Ph stability, Alcalinity, Ionian force) and many biological processes of coral (skeleton formation, ion exchange, photosynthesis).

Foundation elements complement each other in the formation of the coral skeleton. If not properly balanced one of the elements quickly limit healthy growth of corals.
