The genus Aulonocara is endemic to Lake Malawi of East Africa.

Here the emperor cycles live the rocky areas.

They eat small invertebrates that are filtered by sand. All common types of food are good in the aquarium. In our experience, red mosquito larvae should be avoided.

To lay the eggs, the male draws the female into a sand basin previously excavated.

As with all Malawi mouth breeders, the laying of eggs takes place with a circular movement.

After 21 days, the female releases from 20 to 50 young fish of size from eight to ten millimeters.

The females of the individual species are brown-argent and resemble each other, so that the intersections may occur in the aquariums of communities.

To obtain pure breed species, a single color variant should be maintained in the breeding tank.
