The Heteranthera zosterifolia of South America is an extremely beautiful plant, which forms many lateral shoots and thus quickly forms a group of bushy plants.
The stems can reach 30-50 cm in height and 6-12 cm in width. The leaves often become black on the back. In conditions of strong light the growth is intense and the plant must be pruned before it becomes so compact that the light does not reach the lower leaves. Aquatic roots often form on the stem. Those can be easily cut and replanted.
In open aquariums form small blue flowers if you let some sprouts spread over the surface.
