Hygrophila polysperma, from Southeast Asia, is one of the most resistant aquarium plants in circulation. The stems become 25-40 cm wide and 4-8 cm wide.
It is particularly suitable for beginners because it grows in almost all conditions. It usually grows so fast that it is important to avoid overlapping with other plants. The sprouts must be regularly cut. The leaves lying on the surface form small new plants.
Hygrophila polysperma varies greatly in the shape and color of the leaves, partly depending on the light provided.
