'Purple' is a spectacularly colored form of Salzmann's water hyssop. It apparently appeared on the market after another rather reddish-green form of Bacopa salzmannii, which was initially called Bacopa sp.'Araguaia'.The submerged leaves of Bacopa salzmannii 'Purple', on the other hand, develop intense dark reddish-purple tones. The midrib and lateral veins are darker in color. The stems grow upright under water and branch little. They reach a height of at least 30 cm and a width of about 4 cm.The submerged leaves are ovate, up to 2.2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. They form a color contrast to the rather light green and thick stem.
