Underwater the leaves are narrow and long (from 20-40 cm and a rosette 20-40 cm wide).
In the aquarium it tends to grow out of the water. This can be prevented by removing long leaves just before they reach the surface of the water. The next leaves will become shorter and the plant will remain under water.
In open aquariums the plant can grow out of the water, but the margins of the leaves often dry if the humidity of the air is low.
