Carassius Auratus Lion Head It is one of the most popular ornamental varieties of domestic red fish, selected in Asia for the characteristic fleshy growth on the head, called wen. This conformation gives the specimen an imposing and distinctive aspect, but requires specific attention in the management of the aquarium. It is a robust, long-lived fish and also suitable for neophytes, as long as the correct environmental conditions are respected.

    Ideal habitat in the aquarium

The lion's head does not exist in nature but derives from artificial selection. In the aquarium requires environments large, well oxygenated and stable, with clean water without nitrogenous substances. It is a slow, little agile fish, which must be protected by strong currents and from tank companions too lively.

    Recommended minimum volume

80 liters for the first specimen, with at least 40-50 additional liters for each more fish. Bigger tanks clearly improve health, growth and longevity.

    Filtration

    Filtration oversized, preferably external, with:

    • High organic capacity

    • Moderate flow (not direct on the fins)

The red fish produces much organic load, so filtration is a key element.

    Bottom

    • Silica or quartzfa fine sand

    • Fine granulometry (0.5-1 mm)

The seabed must avoid the risk of wounds to the mouth and to the wen during food research.

    Furniture

    • Smooth and rounded furnishings

    • Roasted roots and rocks without edges

    • Large free zones for swimming

Is critical avoid sharp decorations, which could damage fins and cephalic growth.

    Lighting

    • Moderate

    • 8-10 hours a day

It does not require intense light, but sufficient to support any robust plants.

    Chemical water parameters

    Temperature: 18-22 ° C
    ph: 6,5-7,5
    Gh: 6-15 ° DGH
    Conductivity: 200-600 μs / cm
    Ammonia / nitrite: 0 mg / l
    Nitrates: <25 mg / l

Weekly water changes of 20-30% are strongly recommended.

    Behavior and coexistence

    The lion's head is:

    • Pacific

    • Non-territorial

    • Slow in movements

It must be bred only with other varieties of red fish with short or lens flippers, like Oranda, Ranchu or Ryukin quiet.
To avoid: tropical fish, fast or aggressive species, slender body variety (eg comet).

    Power

Omnivorous with a delicate digestive system:

    • High quality red fish feed

    • Blanched vegetables (zucchini, peas decorated, spinach)

    • Occasionally Protein (Chironomus, Artemia, only as integration)

Better small frequent meals to prevent floating problems.

    Recommended plants

Plants are preferable robust or little attractive, As:

    • Anubias

    • Microsorum

    • Vallisneria

    • Ceratophyllum

The plants must be fixed to wood or rocks, since the fish tends to dig.

    Reproduction

    Possible in wide aquariums:

    • Deposition of eggs on plants or mop

    • No parental care

    • Adults tend to eat eggs and fry

Reproduction requires dedicated experience and tanks.

    Longevity

With proper management can live 15-20 years, sometimes even beyond in optimal conditions.

Shipping kit in the purchase of shrimp and snails

Expeditions of live animals (shrimp, snails, crustaceans and other invertebrates) are carried out only Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, to guarantee optimal transport conditions and minimize the times of stock.

For each order containing live animals it is mandatory to add the shipping kit, designed to ensure maximum protection during transport. The kit includes:

    • Polystyrene container with high thermal insulation
    • Double protective bag with oxygenation
    • Thermal warmer (included in the coldest months)

Important: Acquarioshop.it is not responsible for any delays in delivery caused by the courier, adverse weather conditions or other external events not attributable to The Ark of Zin Fabio.

Furthermore, it is not possible to predict the compatibility between the water of our breeding and that of your aquarium, since we do not know the specific chemical-physical parameters of each domestic tank. For this reason, we recommend a gradual acclimatization of at least an hour, introducing small amounts of water of the aquarium in the shipping bag every 5-10 minutes. During this process, it is recommended immerse the bag in the aquarium to allow a correct stabilization of the temperature before the final release.
