The kit JBL CO2 Test Set direct is used to quickly and accurately determine the content of carbon dioxide in aquarium water
Why test?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most important nutrient of plants.
Without a supply of carbon dioxide, the aquarium usually has values between 2 and 4 mg/l.
A value of CO2 between 15 and 30 mg/l would be recommended, however a value of 20 - 25
mg/l proved to be the optimum value. This value is harmless for fishes and, at the same time, provides a lush growth
plants. Then adjust your CO2 system by hand to achieve an ideal value.
The amount of CO2 that must be supplied to achieve this value depends on various factors. Beyond direct consumption
through plants also the movement of water and the intensity of lighting influence it
(more light makes plants grow faster and consequently increases the CO2 requirement).
For this reason the right amount to be added for each individual aquarium should be identified.
Please also read carefully the instructions of your CO2 fertilization system.
Aquariums with few or without plants such as for example for lake fish Malawi or Tanganyika do not need a
cO2 supplement.
Help for fresh water:
Carbon dioxide content too low: < 15 mg/l. Adding carbon dioxide with JBL ProFlora bio (CO2 of natural production from microorganisms).
Added by a fertilization plant JBL ProFlora CO2 (u401, u402, u403, m601, m602,m603, m1003).
Carbon dioxide content too high: > 30 mg/l. The time to intervene is indicated by the fish when they start breathing in
accelerated and hold at the surface of the water.
In this case, the aquarium with a diaphragm pump JBL ProSilent. Reduce CO2 input.
In case of acute poisoning with carbon dioxide, a 50% water change must be made.
Instructions for use of direct CO2 test in fresh water:
1. Rinse the two tubes several times with aquarium water to be analyzed.
2. Rinse the syringe attached with the water to be examined.
3. With the syringe fill the two tubes with 20 ml of water
of the aquarium. Be careful not to create bubbles when you fill them.
4. Put the two test pieces on the two fields of the attached color card.
5a. In the test tube on the white field pour 5 drops of reagent 1 and shake it slightly.
5b. Below you add the reagent 2 drop per drop by stirring it slightly after each drop.
Count the drops until the color becomes slightly pink and corresponds with the test tube on the other field of the color card.
To compare well the colors look from above in the tubes.
5c. Add reagent drops 2 until the color remains stable for at least 60 seconds.
6. Each drop is 2 mg/l of carbon dioxide in water. The number of drops x 2 is equal to the content of
carbon dioxide in mg/l.
