Sub Stratum, Bioactive Volcanic Substrate
EXO Terra's sub Stratum is a natural bioactive substrate, harvested at the rich slopes of minerals of the ASO volcano, Japan. Made with volcanic soil (Andisol) derived from spider and riolithic Tifra, it is extremely rich in nutrients, ideal for luxuriant growth of plants in bioactive terrariums.
Thanks to its porous and lightweight structure, it guarantees excellent aeration and drainage, favoring the development of strong roots. Furthermore, it hosts an active population of nitrifying beneficial bacteria, helping to create a self-sufficient ecosystem. These microorganisms decompose organic waste, eliminate ammonia and smells, maintaining the terrarium clean and healthy.
Main features:
- Natural and bioactive substrate, enriched with live benefits bacteria
- Supports organic filtration and maintains the balance of the terrarium
- Eliminate ammonia and bad odors
- Excellent drainage capacity
- Ideal for bioactive terrariums with lived plants
- Promotes healthy growth of roots and plants
- Made with high quality Japanese volcanic soil
Ingredients:
Natural volcanic soil (Andisol), activated carbon, live beneficial bacteria (Bacillus)
How to use:
The sub Stratum can be used in three different ways:
As the only substrate
Spread a layer of 2.5 - 5 cm on the bottom of the terrarium. Bacteria are activated in contact with water or organic waste. Naturally removes odors and waste. It is advisable to rinse and partially replace every 12 months.
As a layer of drainage
Usable as a base under a biological substrate (eg Plantation Soil by EXO Terra). The roots grow in the layer of sub Stratum, while drainage prevents the formation of anaerobic bacteria. For optimal drainage, it can be combined with a inorganic layer (eg biodrain) separated with biodrain mesh network.
Mixed with other substrates
Mixed to other organic substrates, enriches the ground with essential minerals (calcium, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus), improves water retention and soil oxygenation.
