Aulonocara sp. Firefish cichlids

The genus Aulonocara is endemic of Lake Malawi of East Africa.

Here the emperor cichlids live rocky areas.

They eat small invertebrates that are filtered by the sand. All common food types are fine in the aquarium. In our experience, red mosquito larvae should be avoided.

To lay the eggs, the male attracts the female in a previously excavated sand basin.

As with all malawi mouth breeders, the deposition of the eggs takes place with a circular movement.

After 21 days, the female releases from 20 to 50 young fish from eight to ten millimeters.

The females of the individual species are brown-silver and are resembled together, so that the crossroads can occur in community aquariums.

To obtain a pure breed species, a single color variant should be maintained in the breeding tank.
