The Ceratohpyllum demersun is a cosmopolitan aquatic plant, floating freely under the water, without roots or fixed in the ground by rhizoids. The stem is over 1 meter long, often ramified, hard or soft, very fragile.

The Ceratophyllum demersun is a water plant without any need that depending on the origin can be used in the garden pond (resistant to cold), in the cold water tank or in the tropical one. The species prefers water hard or medium hardness, with an alkaline pH and temperature up to 30°C. It doesn't require much light. In the aquarium you can let the stems float or, more decorative system, plant them in group on the bottom. In the latter case, however, the plants soon reach the surface of the water and must be pruned. Thanks to its rapid growth it can be used as a 'food competition' in the fight against algae. Due to the hard structure of the foliage C.demersum can be used very well in an aquarium with phytochemical cyclics.
