Most Iodide supplements on the market are simply potassium halide. When it is added to the environment of an aquarium, the iodide becomes unstable by transforming themselves into elements of iodine (which is biocide) and iodine (which is useless for corals, toxic at high levels, and cannot be tested). Iodide is the only form of iodine administered to corals for growth. Because of its instability, iodide must be stabilized to use it in the aquarium.
