Reef Buffer Seachem

Reef BufferTM serves to increase carbonate hardness; however, it was mainly studied as a buffer for reef aquariums, where stable maintenance of the Ph to 8.3 is very difficult.

Reef BufferTM is specifically manufactured to meet the requirements of reef aquarium.

The pK of a buffer substance is equivalent to the pH around which the buffer is more correct. It should be assumed that the pK of a salt water buffer should be 8.3, however, the multitude of organic acids produced by the inhabitants of the aquarium Reef forces the pH downward, to much higher degrees than those present in the marine aquarium. A buffer with pK of 8.3 would end with producing a pH between 8.0-8.2.

Reef BufferTM has higher pK(8.6), which allows stability for a higher pH in a reef aquarium where the biotope is much more important than one with only one fish.

Reef BufferTM has high pK (8.6), allows stability for a higher pH in a reef aquarium where biotope is much more important than one with only one fish.

Instructions for Use

Check the pH and carbonate hardness in advance. A 5 gr satin teaspoon (released in advance in a glass of fresh water) every 150 liters, raises the pH of about 0.1 (at the same time the hardness will grow by about 0.5 meq/l). The pH of natural marine water is 8.25 – 8.30. In a reef aquarium that works well, the pH correction can take place twice a week or half the week itself. The dosage may vary, but do not exceed the doses indicated without checking pH and hardness (no more than 6 meq/l). If at a hardness of 6 meq/l does not correspond to a pH of at least 8.20, or there is a consistent turbidity that does not disappear within 15 minutes, it means that the system is not ionically balanced. To recover the ion balance make a change of water or bring the level of magnesium and calcium respectively to 3 (Mg) against 1 (Ca).( Calcium should not exceed 400 mg/lt.).

NOT SUPERDOSARE: excessive hardness can determine a loss of calcium, magnesium and strontium. Do not mix directly with other calcium, magnesium and strontium supplements.
