Order: Caracis

Family: Characida

Common name:Tetra ornate

Dimensions: about 4 cm

Distribution: South America

Appearance: It is characterized by a tapered body and tendingly transparent, with the presence of light shades of pinkish color.

The tail and fins have a more intense coloration tending to the strong pink, the most extreme tip and the ronamental part of the dorsal turn out to be a strong white

Sexual dimorphism is evident in what concerns the coloration that turns out to be more blind in males and with the more voluminous dorsal fin.

Aquarium features: Since the species is bred in group it would be necessary to provide a tank with dimensions at least 120 litres

Due to the small size and rather shy character it is preferable to breed them in monospecific tank even if in community aquarium it is very peaceful.

For the preparation of the tub it is possible to use a base characterized by natural and dark colors, inert and of not excessively reduced dimensions. Rocks (always inert) and wood of various types can also be added.

The staging must be densely planted so as to ensure the presence of hides and shaded areas but that also leaves the space to the swimming

Values for breeding:

Temperature: 24-28 °C

pH: 6-7,5 (but it is preferable to maintain a slightly acidic environment around pH 6.5)

KH: 5

GH: 10

NO2: absent

Number of specimens: minimum group 8-10 specimens

Food: Hyphessobrycon bentosis diet should be quite varied. It is possible to provide dry food (possibly micro-granular) as long as adequate size, although initially it may not be accepted.

It is necessary to provide live or frozen food of small size like Daphnie and Artemie.
