The Bolbitis heudelotii is a wonderful aquatic plant belonging to the Lomariopsidaceae family, and is also known among aquarists with the name of African or Congo fern aquatic fern. It grows in various African tropical regions as epiphyte in torrents, lakes or fast-paced rivers on sandy or rocky seabeds. In their habitat are attached to the rocks or woods and roots. It grows in submerged conditions with very clean and slightly acidic waters. Its leaves of a beautiful color that can pass from bright green to dark green are definitely an excellent addition in an aquarium.

Description

Bolbitis heudelotii is a slow growing aquatic plant. It can grow with low to high light under full immersion conditions up to 40 cm tall. The leaves, as previously said of a beautiful green, are arranged alternately towards each other. The rhizome is very dark brown and lanceolate. This is one of those plants that help, and not little, to give a completely natural look to your aquarium and to keep under control the values of water absorbing many nutrients from nitrates. It can also provide a natural shelter for fish and shrimp. It looks particularly beautiful when used as a dark background plant. Grows if tied on a rock or a piece of wood, like theAnubias it is not a plant that goes underground, otherwise it rots.

Care of Bolbitis heudelotii

Bolbitis heudelotii is an easy to cure and not very demanding plant, which makes it a great choice for neophytes. It has a wide range of water values, in fact it requires temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees, moderately acidic neutral water with a pH range between 5 and 7, and a hardness between 4 and 12 dGH. In lighting, its needs are attested to 0.6 watts/liter to rise. In low light conditions, the leaves grow slowly and become a dark green, but in higher light conditions with the presence of a carbon dioxide plant, the leaves develop a beautiful light green color.
