Nitrites are toxic substances for fish and invertebrates

Many people have a wrong belief that once a tank has finished its start cycle (after 3 or 4 weeks) the nitrite risk is exceeded. Many tests for Nitrites suffer from interference with 8naturalhemth amines in amino acids, the result is too low measurement of nitrite concentration.

Nitrites are converted into nitrates from the natural life cycle in the aquarium. So formatted nitrates are transformed into harmless nitrogen through denitrification. This happens in the oxygen-free zones between the living rocks. Before being transformed into nitrogen nitrates are first converted into nitrites. When for some reason this cycle cannot be completed nitrites can be present in significant quantities and detected by a test that does not suffer from interference with the amina.

The test Salifert for Nitrites is not subject to these interferences thanks to the special components used. These same components give a change of coloring to the water to be tested fast and on, so as to detect even small amounts of nitrites. It is probably the fastest and most accurate nitrite test available on the market.

The kit is enough for approx.60 measurements

HOW TO EASE TEST

The temperature of the tested water should be above 18° if not the color will not be able to vary in 60 seconds. If the water temperature is lower than the value indicated, the test container should be left 10 minutes at room temperature before testing.

• Put with a 1.0 ml syringe of water to be tested in the test container.

• Add a satin spoon of NO2 powder. Mix the contents of the test container for 20 seconds. Let it rest for 60 seconds.

• Place the test vessel on a white part of the colorimetric scale and compare the colors. Read the percentage of Nitrites detected. A color between two color gradients corresponds to a concentration of intermediate Nitrites. Nitriti values are indicated in mg / L. If you prefer Nitriti – Azoto concentration, the detected result must be multiplied by 0.3.

Increased sensitivity
Lift the test container in front of you and look at it sideways. Place the colour scale behind the container. Make sure the white sector is behind the liquid. The results must be divided by 10.
